Starry Night

Starry Night

here, my heart reeked of remembrance.
lost in a forest of memories that do not
listen to the echoes of light & joy,
& I do not know the road to the end of dead faces,
or where to keep grief away from screaming.
somewhere in the sky, a star located my body
& drew my hollowness towards your image,
I cannot say what that means,
but every inch was a step closer
to a tale of fluorescents & flowers.
someone said this is what it means to find love,
what it means to be broken with God in every fragment.
like the rain, your voice is full of dreams,
my name leaped from your mouth
& I felt something dead resurrect in me:
like answers to a moon’s departure,
like a flock of birds with the music of flying.
see, love is a way to walk into dead memories
without grief stalking the lanes of your mind,
& to love you is to carry the smell of a story
allergic to fire & the aloneness of a burnt boy.
the stars are here again questing a poem from my loins,
Anike, walk into my past with your light
as we leave for them another story
love rescue from straying in the dark.
