My Pain Loves You

By Mairo-the-Poet:

I have built an asylum in my heart
For you my butterfly
Where disappointment won’t murk the waters.
I want you to kick me hard in the gut
I will squirm
But I will whisper your name ever so softly.
I will want you to tie my hands
And pull the string tight
I will wail, but will gently pat you on the back.
I want you to punch me in the face
Till crimson fountains drown my sobs
My smile will break forth like a new day
And I will still cling to you my butterfly.
Plunge a sword deep into my heart
I will die many times
But your tender affections will bring me back to life a million times over.
I love this game,
when you make me ache all over
Even if you bleed me dry
I will still love you with every ounce in my body .
Since the day when the flamboyance of your glamorous essence
Assaulted the very foundations of my being
I can’t wish the pain to go away
My pain loves you!
I will hang onto the ledge of your luscious lips
Till you bury me in the fulfillment of their promise!

Born and bred in Zimbabwe. Currently living and working in South Africa. A primary school teacher by profession but a Performance Poet by design. My father was a wood-carver, so I fancy myself a word-carver. To me poetry is life, therefore the purpose of art is to comment on the human condition.
