ÀNÌKÉ- Day 10

Ife Oloyin

~after listening to Beautiful Nubia

Ànìké, here is my love, take, eat & be full.
here is my heart, make music of its beats.
here is my body, pin it to the night,
plant your softness in every nook
& nurse it to a river at the door of your soul.
here is my art, sip from its jar of wine
& be drunk enough to mistake my face for an
express way where everything is running into you.
here is my song, listen, there are bubbles
in every symphony, there are butterflies
carrying colored dreams around,
do you not hear the birds? Do you not see
their wings flapping fireworks from our chemistry?
here is my poetry, take, munch every word
like they are your last supper of words,
drown in every figure of speech like it’s the
doctor’s prescription for revival in your blood.
& I do not promise to stop burning for you, to rescue you
from drowning in the sea of words flowing within me,
Ànìké, I do not promise to live in this body without
carving our love out of every poem from my loins.
