Kengan Ashura:  Manga showcasing a world of money, violence and fighting spirit

Kengan Ashura is a Japanese anime series based on the manga of the same name by Yabako Sandrovich and Daromeon. The series was first announced in January 2015, when Ura Sunday ran a fan poll to determine which of its series would receive an anime adaptation. In May 2015, Kengan Ashura was announced as the poll winner, with 2.3 million out of 9 million votes. Two years later, on December 7, 2017, it was announced that the anime would be a television series on March 22

Kengan Ashura Series

A sequel to Kengan Ashura, titled Kengan Omega, began in January 2019. This series was also adapted into an original net animation (ONA) anime, with the first 12-episode part premiering on Netflix on July 31, 2019, and the second 12-episode part premiering on October 31, 2019. A second season of the ONA anime comprising 12 episodes premiered in September 2023, and the second part was scheduled to premiere in 2024

The Kengan Omega anime series premiered in Japan at Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills on January 27, 2019. The series was directed by Seiji Kishi, with writing by Makoto Uezu, and animation by Larx Entertainment. The music for the series was composed by Yasuharu Takanashi.

Tatsuhisa Suzuki

In Kengan Ashura, we meet Tatsuhisa Suzuki, a fierce fighter in his late 20s. After a brutal brawl in a dark alley, he’s recruited by the powerful Nogi Group and the Kengan Association to compete in the brutal Kengan matches. As Ohma climbs the ranks of the Kengan matches, he develops a close relationship with his caretaker, Kazuo Yamashita.

Chō is a 56-year-old salaryman working for the Nakita Group, a powerful conglomerate. One day, he finds himself thrust into the world of underground fighting after meeting a young man named Tatsuhisa Suzuki. Assigned to be Tatsuhisa’s caretaker, Chō begins to develop a unique bond with him as they navigate the violent and cutthroat world of Kengan matches. As his relationship with Tatsuhisa deepens, Chō’s life takes a surprising turn when he is appointed President of the Chó Trading Co.

Jouli Nakita

Jouli Nakita is the CEO of the Nakita Group, a major business conglomerate. After a series of events, Jouli finds himself embroiled in the high-stakes world of Kengan matches. In order to stake his claim to the Chairman’s position in the Kengan Association, he challenges the Association to a fight, putting the fate of the Nakita Group on the line. To prepare for the fight, Chō forms two shell companies: Chō Trading Co. and SF Cold Storage. With Jouli as its President Tatsuhisa Suzuki as its representative fighter

Yumi Uchiyama

Kaede Akiyama – Voiced by: Yumi Uchiyama (Japanese); Erika Harlacher (English)

Yumi Uchiyama is a secretary to Jouji Nakata,. After Jouji’s challenge to the Kengan association, Yumi is assigned to assist Chō and Tatsuhisa Suzuki, who will represent the Nakata’s group in the tournament 

Yumi plays an important role in the event.

Hayato Kaneko

Lihito – Voiced by: Hayato Kaneko (Japanese); Jonah Scott (English)

Known as ‘The superhuman’, Hayato Kaneko is Tatsuhisa Suzuki’s second opponent in the Kengan matches, representing Yoshitake Real Estate. He later becomes the head of the shell company SF Cold Storage, making him the first president/fighter in the tournament’s history. Kaneko is named after his unique technique, in which he uses his razor-sharp fingers to cut through his opponents’ flesh. With his impressive speed and agility, Kaneko is a formidable opponent for Tatsuhisa.

Tetsu Inada

Jun Sekibayashi – Voiced by: Tetsu Inada (Japanese); Jake Green (English)

A wrestler, nicknamed “Hell’s Angel”. Brave and strong, representing the company Gandai.

Junya Enoki

Cosmo Imai – Voiced by: Junya Enoki (Japanese); Bryce Papenbrook (English)

A young fighter, Junya Enoki specializes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and represents Nishihonji Security Services in the Kengan Annihilation tournament. Nicknamed ‘The King of Stranglers’, Junya is a skilled fighter with a mastery of grappling and submission techniques. Despite his youth, Junya is a fierce and determined competitor who gives his all in every match.

Daisuke Namikawa

Setsuna Kiryū – Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa (Japanese); Todd Haberkorn (English)

A fighter for the Koyo Academy Group. His insane attraction to Tatsuhisa has driven him to kill his own master, who murdered Tatsuhisa’s master prior to the start of the series. He enters the tournament in the hopes of fighting Tatsuhisa and being killed by him as his ultimate form of affection.

Kengan Ashura Plot

Chō is a middle-aged man who leads an ordinary life until he’s unexpectedly summoned by his company’s chairman and hired as the manager of a mysterious gladiator named Tatsuhisa Suzuki. Chō soon learns that these gladiators called ‘kengan fighters’, engage in battles called ‘kengan matches’ to protect the interests of the businesses they represent. As the Kengan Zetsumei Tournament approaches, Chō and Tatsuhisa must navigate the cutthroat world of corporate gladiators and fight their way to the top.

Kengan Ashura Episodes

Kengan Ashura has 36 Episodes in two seasons. The second part of Season 2 was yet to be released.
