Freddy Moore’s Career
Freddy Moore’s music career began in his teenage years. While he was still in high school, he formed a band, The Royal Cumquats, with his cousin, Danny Wick.
In 1970, he began performing as Skogie, a moniker that started and stuck while he was in his senior year. He had worn a used PE T-shirt with Skogie written behind to class, and his classmates began calling him by the name.
This name inspired his third Minneapolis band, “Skogie,” which initially went by “Skogie and the Flaming Pachucos.” Also, he wore the PE T-shirt to every gig then.
Skogie was successful in the early 70s, and Creem Magazine named it one of the first power pop bands.
In 1976, Freddy moved to Los Angeles with his wife Lucy, and the rest of his band members. It was at that time the band changed their name to The Kats. He also became popularly known as Freddy Moore, inspired by the on-stage persona he took- Freddy, the cat.
In 1979, The Kats signed a recording deal with Infinity Records and recorded an album. However, the parent company of Infinity Records, MCA Records, dissolved the label before production, and the song was never released.
That same 1979, 29-year-old Freddy met 16-year-old Demi Guynes at a nightclub and they got married in 1981 after divorce from his first wife.
Demi was substantial in his music success. Together they recorded the song “It’s Not a Rumour,” which never charted, but the video was played frequently on MTV. Demi also played a huge role in the video. At that time, The Kats were answering “The Nu-Kats.”
The Nu-Kats dissolved in 1981, and Freddy later formed another band, Boy.
After Boy disbanded in 1983, Freddy and his brother Bobbyzio continued writing and recording music for another year. They played under the moniker BFM (Bobbyzio and Freddy Moore).
Freddy quit music around 1985 after a divorce from Demi Moore in 1985. Notwithstanding, he continued after some years with ex-bandmates and began recording and releasing CDs of new music under the label, “The Kat Club.”
Freddy also made a few film appearances, including I’m a Kat (1979), Parasite (1982) which also starred his wife Demi, and It’s Not a Rumour (1981).
